Due to a shift in the economic climate, people are being more careful with their money than ever before. There is also a greater concern over environmental issues, and both of these changes have made many people reconsider their mode of transport to work. Instead of travelling by car, many more people are hopping on their bicycles.

A trend that hasn't shown any sign of abating or even slowing, staff and customers cycling to work instead of motoring can have a positive impact on your business and can be encouraged very easily.

A cycle shelter is a great way to promote that your company is engaged with green issues, and has an eye on responsible development. Secure and protected from changeable weather, bike racks let staff and customers alike know that you care about the safety of their property and mode of transport, especially if they choose to cycle instead of driving or taking public transport.

Compared to car parks, bike sheds and cycle shelters take up far less space. They are also unobtrusive and highly functional, allowing your staff to lock up their bikes and head into work quickly and easily. Even better, they give your employees the peace of mind of knowing that they won't come out of work to find their bikes soaking wet or stolen.

Additionally, staff who travel to work on their bikes may also be fitter. They are also able to skip through the traffic jams they would normally be stuck in, so they may even arrive at work happier. This can make them more productive.

Cycle shelter and cycle racks are not a new idea - you'll remember them from school - but they are a good idea whose time has come. You only need to observe the scores of officially approved and backed schemes and initiatives associated with sustainable transport to know that the demand for safe, secure places to lock up a bike is not going to go away soon.
