It might be you realize you need to alter your diet or start exercising more. Many us know that we are overweight; nevertheless, we don't think anything of it, or if we do we don't really do anything about it. Recent figures were brought out showing Canada as having an obesity rate of 24% and the US at a whopping 34.5%! This isn't a good thing because being overweight or obese can cause high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure and even diabetes. There are reasons to be scared when being overweight hits such a large number of people living in a country.

As already stated, there are numerous health issues related to being overweight. These can be life changing such as diabetes, which can lead to loss of limb and loss of sight. You may think this could never happen to you, but if you're heavy then it's a very awful reality. If you are ready to make some alterations, you have a better chance of preventing health problems, just by working out and watching what you consume.

Thus, what modifications can you make to the food you eat? Nutritious whole foods is what you need to be eating. Consume lean cuts of meats like beef and pork, and also skinless chicken is very good. Fish is also good to eat because it contains lots of good nutrients that are crucial for your body.

Most junk foods have 'empty calories', which are basically calories in the form of sugar or fat that don't really supply your body with anything useful. If you were to consume some chicken, the calories in it would be believed useful, as chicken contains a great deal of protein, which is of use to the body. For the benefit of your body, make sure you avoid eating too many sugary, salty foods and unhealthy fats. If you can help it, try to cut back on any food that has been processed.

Processed foods are also replete with empty calories but taste good, so it's easy to over indulge in them, but the truth in the matter is that these foods can trigger heart attacks, diabetes and they can clog your arteries. Rather, go for home made meals made from fresh ingredients, like vegetables and meat. Sitting down to eat, it would be good to be aware of what you are eating.
